I was over minimalism until I saw Amanda Seyfried’s hallway

A minimalist space endures for several reasons: it is versatile, calming, and truly timeless thanks to a neutral palette and natural materials.

This stands true in Amanda Seyfried’s New York City home, which features an organic modern hallway created by acclaimed designers General Assembly.

While the space is certainly pared-back, it is made interesting through architectural features like curved doorways. These give the space a more playful feel. Additionally, a geometric floor runner adds texture and dimension to the otherwise minimalist part of the home. It’s safe to say that neutrals can make just as much of a statement as bold colors.

According to experts, the addition of wood in an organic modern or minimalist space is essential in maintaining visual interest, as it possesses the ability to instantly elevate any area.

Frank Petersen, Head of Product Development Parador, explains: ‘Stylistically, the wood look brings an elegant, organic feel to a space, adding texture and interest whilst remaining neutral. From beautiful oaks and deep walnuts to light ash, these tones offer a calm, grounded foundation.’

The light wood accents on the door frames in Amanda’s apartment exemplify why this statement is true: they add subtle texture to the white walls while creating a point of visual interest.

Additionally, the use of a patterned or textured hallway runner, like Amanda’s black and white rug, is a fantastic way to break up a neutral space.

‘The texture of the carpet is key to preventing a neutral scheme from looking dull,’ explains Lisa Conway, Marketing Manager at Brintons. ‘A woven wool carpet in a soft, chalky tone instantly softens the space – and when layered with natural fibres like cashmere, mohair and linen, the effect is warm and tactile.’

She continues, ‘Where an alternative floor like wood or tile might leave a room feeling stark, a neutral carpet adds comfort and dimension. It’s the foundation of an inviting scheme.’

Finally, the white wall sconces are a delightfully contemporary hallway lighting idea, blending into the white wall paint while peeking out just enough to draw interest.

Amanda’s hallway is definitely proof that neutrals will always be in, so long as we look for innovative ways to style them.
