Seminar on ‘Earthquake Resistant Structural Design’ at IEI Manipur State Centre

The Institution of Engineers (India) Manipur State Centre has successfully organised One Day Seminar on “Earthquake Resistant Structural Design” at the Seminar Hall of the State Centre today, 6th May 2025.

The welcome address was delivered by Er. L. Shamungou Singh, MIE, Committee Member, IEI Manipur State Centre. A keynote speech about the Seminar was delivered by Er. S. Tampha Singh, FIE, Convenor of the Seminar.

The observation was graced by Er. Ng. Dillp Meitei, MIE, Executive Engineer, PDA Manipur & Committee Member, IEI Manipur State Centre as the Resource Person; Er. S. Tampha Singh, FIE, Convenor; Er. W. Homendro Singh, HE, Immediate Past Chairman; Er. L. Swamikanta Singh, FIE, Chairman, IEI Manipur State Centre as the President and Dr. Th. Subhaschandra Singh, MIE, Honorary Secretary, 1E1 Manipur State Centre.

The event was sponsored by Harimita Constructions, Khagempalli Pankha, Imphal and the proprietor of the firm, Er. Naoba Thoudam was felicitated by the Chairman. Er. W. Homendro Singh, FIE, Immediate Past Chairman, IEI Manipur State Centre also spoke briefly about the importance of organising such programme for the welfare of the emerging engineers of the State and the Country.

The Presidential speech was delivered by the Chairman of the State Centre, Er. Loktongbam Swamikanta Singh, FIE. He spoke at length about the significance of the current topic with respect to the-latest earthquake that happened recently at Myanmar with a magnitude of about 7.5. He further narrated the devastating effects of an earthquake and how engineers must take precaution during building construction.

He applauded the august gathering for their energetic presence for the seminar.

The programme was hosted by Er. Langpoklakpam Denin Singh, AMIE, Corporate Member of WI. The observation was attended by ID Manipur State Centre Committee Members, Corporate Members of IEI, Engineers from various engineering departments, Special Invitees and students.

The Inaugural session was followed by the technical talk on “Earthquake Resistant Structural Design” by Er. Ng. Dilip Meitei, MIE, Executive Engineer, PDA Manipur.
