32 Beautiful Beach House Bathrooms Inspired By The Coast

The bathroom might not be one of the first spaces you think of when it comes to decorating a house, but it is one of the most used areas of your home. Whether you are building a new home or renovating an existing one, the functionality, accessibility, and design of the bathroom space should definitely be near the top of your priority list.

From choosing fixtures and finishes to deciding on style and paint color or wallpaper, there are plenty of ways to create a relaxing bathroom. Whether you prefer a high-end or laid-back space, these coastal beach house bathrooms are filled with smart and stunning design ideas that lean in the surroundings for inspiration.

Natural Materials

Helen Norman

For her bitty Corolla, North Carolina, beach cottage, Lauren chose pebble tile for the bath, carrying it across the floors and up the shower walls. “You can feel them underfoot,” she says. “They’re very tactile and natural.” A new vanity, which was designed to look antique, plus exterior lights give the renovated room a warm and worn-in appeal.

Light and Airy

No dark and dingy spaces here! Add interest and character to a refreshing white space with beach-inspired accessories. In this primary bathroom, designer Heather Chadduck Hillegas hung a straw hat above the clawfoot tub paired with vintage beach photographs on the adjacent wall, selected a woven basket to hold extra towels, and layered in a hint of color with a simple runner.

Whether it’s vacation home or full-time residence, the coast is a cheerful place and a beach house should reflect that. Bright colors aren’t for everyone, but we love this playful powder room swathed in wallpaper with a sunny yellow vanity. Gray and white wall tiling helps balance the personality-forward selections.

Sea-Inspired Wallpaper

An aquatic theme is always welcome at the beach, especially in small spaces. The fish-print Cole & Son wallpaper adds interest thanks to the pattern’s burnt orange, deep blue, and soft browns while still creating a light-filled bathroom. An Oriental-rug bath mat ties into the print’s color palette.

Pretty Palms

Continue the island style from outside in with a tropically inspired botanical wallpaper. While this large print pattern is perfect for a punchy powder room, you can extend the idea to a full bathroom with a smaller scale design.

Shades of Blue

Incorporate colors in more unexpected ways. While paint and tile are common methods to bring in various hues, a blue-tinted vanity top adds charm in this coastal cottage. Blue and green accents throughout balance the white breadboard. The Osborne & Little fabric valance adds visual appeal and mimics the colors in the floor tiles.

Plenty of Room for All

You can never have too many hooks to hang sandy beach towels and clean bath towels alike. No one wants to have to put the two on the same hook, especially in shared bathrooms. In this bunk room bath, each hook has a coordinating bird print for each guest.

All About the View

This serene primary bathroom suite leans on neutral shades to highlight the beachfront beauty. Anchored by white paneled walls, antique mirrors that reflect the natural light, a plush runner, and black-and-white photographs add character. For a touch of color, the homeowner opted for pink linens which tie into the Moroccan rug.

Hand-Painted Touches

Hand-painted vanities bring personality into this bathroom and the painted floral pattern nods to the window treatment fabric. Though fully outfitted in tile (ideal for wet and sandy feet), a vintage rug warms up the floor.

A Repurposed Old Florida Room

Erica Dunhill

A sun-drenched room is the ultimate relaxing retreat. This primary bathroom was once a porch that was later inclosed to become a Florida room. The original natural wood of the porch ceiling creates a cozy space while the large windows facilitate a connection to nature.

Floor-To-Ceiling Tile

Jonny Valiant

Carrara marble tile by Ann Sacks covers this beachside bath in floor-to-ceiling tile that extends in the same tone across the flooring. Tile is ideal to keep moisture from getting trapped and resisting sandy floors. The cool, monochromatic color scheme creates a soothing feel.

Cozy Corners

Jean Allsopp

Unpainted, unfinished wood recalls bygone beach style―imagine a Key West cottage in the days of Hemingway. The look is authentic, natural, and beach-chic all at the same time. For open shelving, conceal your necessities in woven baskets and for handmade decor, use glass jars or hurricanes to display beach finds.

Nautical Nods

A rope mirror hangs centerstage in this seaside bathroom above a skirted farm sink that keeps it casual. For added interest, three shades of penny tile create a custom floor pattern which really pops against the walls painted Sherwin-Williams’ Pure White (SW 7005).

Hello Green

In the guest bath this Rosemary Beach, Florida, home shades of green cultivate the ultimate relaxing sanctuary. To let natural light in without sacrificing the function of a large mirror, an oval mirror is suspended in front of the window.

Playing with Texture

This beachy bathroom is infused with ample style thanks to a combination of natural materials from terra-cotta flooring, polished brass fixtures, a printed grasscloth wallpaper from Erika M. Powell Textiles, and a natural wood fluted vanity. For a warmer alternative to tile, consider a brick floor.

A Peaceful Retreat

This primary bath is all about relaxation and the view. The deep, freestanding tub overlooks the grassy dunes, making it a serene escape. Tile work detailing on the floor which mimics a rug adds a graphic element to the space.

Double Vanities

Separate vanities (painted Sherwin-Williams’ Herbal Wash (SW 7739) leaves the perfect window-front spot for a freestanding tub (painted Sherwin-Williams’ Rookwood Dark Green (SW 2816)). Here, the designer used paneling and paint as cost-effective alternative to swathing the whole room with wallpaper.

Fun Flooring

Less isn’t always more and this compact space proves it with a focus on low and high areas. Various shades of green in the dainty wallpaper, picture rail trim, and concrete tiles connect each detail together, plus the linens and vanity paint color tie into the palette.

Monochromatic Pairings

Laurey W. Glenn; Styling: Liz Strong

This powder room doesn’t hold back on blue—it’s loud without being overwhelming. The wainscot painted Sherwin-Williams’ Refuge, SW 6228 pairs perfectly with the darker blue patterned wallpaper (Meg Braff Designs’ Little Egypt in Iznik) above it.

Wicker Fixtures

Rattan sconces hang above the separate sinks and mirrors which allow multiple people to make use of the bathroom. To accommodate the tall ceilings, a beachy disco ball-like pendant from Serena & Lily hangs centerstage while the yellow motif extends to the crown molding.

Pool-Inspired Tile

The defining feature that captures attention in this island-style primary bath is the flooring. In a spectrum of ocean blues and greens, the tile provides the perfect color accent to the neutral walls and window shades for a spa-like feel.

Small spaces don’t have to be coated in white paint to keep them from feeling cramped. This quaint powder bath plays into the home’s historic character with The Evelyn Wallpaper by designer Lulie Wallace used floor-to-ceiling. “It just looked like it belonged there, as if it could have been there 60 years ago,” designer Sarah Tucker.

Colorful Subway Tiles

Laurey W. Glenn; Styling: Liz Strong

Minimal wall space in this beach house bathroom meant little room to hang treasures, so in lieu of colorful paint, water-friendly aqua subway tiles cover the room. To keep plenty of natural light, a small antique mirror is hung in front of the window.

Matching Wallpaper and Window Treatments

This dreamy bathroom extends the blue-and-white pattern (Soane Britain’s Dianthus Chintz in Lapis) from the walls to the windows. Rather than a full-fabric window treatment, the coordinating textile was used to line the inside of a bamboo roman shade so it shows from the inside and out.

Plenty of Privacy

Tall curtains frame the freestanding tub to create quick and easy privacy from the outside while two frosted-glass panels flank the entrance for a spa-like feel and sense of seperation from the rest of the bathroom.

The shutter-inspired, slatted detail on the tub surround lends an outdoor shower-like feel to the bathroom. And for a relaxing bath, bamboo-style roman shades provide the perfect balance of privacy and natural light flow.

Citrus Hues

For a cheerful pop of color, an orange patterned wallpaper (Suvi wallcovering in Clementine) meets the chair rail height tile. Green accents from the mirror, linens, and even the floor painted Sherwin-Williams’ Evergreens, SW-6447 balance the vibrant walls.

A Spacious Shower

Rinsing off in this luxurious walk-in shower after a long beach day sounds pretty perfect to us! A garden stool to hold bathing accessories and a palm leaf is the just-right finishing touch.

A Floating Vanity

Laurey W. Glenn; Styling: Matthew Gleason

There a plenty of ways to add airiness to small spaces and keep them from feeling cramped. In this bathroom, a floating vanity does the trick. It strikes a balance between a built-in look and piece of furniture.

Simple and Clean

This zero-entry, dual sided shower is the primary feature of this beach house bathroom. The patterned tile floor seamlessly continues from the rest of the room into the large walk-in shower with white subway tile walls. Lots of natural light gives the simple room a welcoming feel.

Space Saver

Tria Giovan

Maximize the square footage of a small powder room with sliding or pocket-style doors. This way, you won’t have to plan around door clearances.

A Relaxing Tub

For a totally clean slate, opt for all white. Shiplap walls, built-in shelving, a chandelier over the tub, patterned rug, and framed artwork spruce up the bright space.
